It's common knowledge that high blood pressure can easily lead to complications such as heart disease, myocardial infarction, and stroke. However, the relationship between high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease is often overlooked. In fact:

High blood pressure increases glomerular pressure, leading to arteriosclerosis of small arteries, damage to the glomerular microvascular endothelium, and proteinuria, ultimately resulting in glomerular sclerosis. Glomerular sclerosis itself reduces renal tubular blood circulation, and combined with the direct toxic effects of proteinuria on the renal tubules, it further causes tubular atrophy and renal interstitial fibrosis, interstitial inflammation, and a vicious cycle that leads to a decline in kidney function.
