Henry Ford Hospital in the United States conducted a study on 331 patients aged 14 to 17 years old teens. A study found that among the 134 participants surveyed, they spent an average of 25 hours per week online. Of these 134 individuals, 26 had elevated blood pressure, with both systolic and diastolic readings higher than 90% of their peers.
The program host suggested that parents limit the amount of time teenagers spend online to no more than two hours a day, and encourage them to shift their focus from computers and smartphones to physical activities. He also suggested that schools establish a screening mechanism to identify
hypertensionStudents in risk groups will be followed up to determine if further treatment is needed.
The study also pointed out that in addition to being more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, people who are addicted to the Internet also have higher rates of anxiety, depression and obesity. This study was published in the Journal of School Nursing.
