People With Myopia Should Start Regular Eyes Exam Early

Dr. Chow Pak-chin, former president of the Hong Kong College of Ophthalmologists, stated that approximately 60% of the Hong Kong population suffers from myopia, with the prevalence reaching as high as 90% among university students. He warned that patients with severe myopia (over 600 degrees) are prone to complications such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. These diseases may not present obvious symptoms in the early stages, but in severe cases they can affect vision and even lead to blindness, so they should never be ignored. He urged the public to develop the habit of regular eye exams as early as possible.
