Did You Know? Insomnia May Increase Stroke Risk by 54%.

One in four people in TaiwanSleep wellLack of energy reduces efficiency and also causes tremendous physical and mental stress. New research shows that insomnia may also increase the risk of stroke.
A Taiwanese study published in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke found thatinsomniaPeople with insomnia have a 54% higher risk of stroke than those without insomnia; and among all insomnia patients, young and middle-aged people aged 18 to 34 have an eight times higher risk of stroke than those over 34 years old.
The study leader, Assistant Professor Xu Yawen of Chia-Nan University of Pharmacy and Science, tracked about 2 insomnia patients and 1 non-insomnia patients in the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database. Four years later, 6 insomnia patients had strokes, accounting for about 4% of the total; 583 non-insomnia patients had strokes, accounting for about 2.7% of the total. Long-term insomnia for more than half a year will increase the incidence of stroke.
The research team believes that it is not clear how insomnia increases the risk of stroke, but they speculate that insomnia may increase the body's inflammatory response, increase blood pressure and even disrupt metabolism, thereby affecting cardiovascular health.
Xu Yawen suggested that if the public haschronic insomniaThis problem, especially for young patients, requires not only active treatment but also going to the hospital to assess their stroke risk.
