How to identify high uric acid levels?

If you suddenly find that your big toe or a joint is red, swollen, and painful, you may have too much uric acid in your body! The most common location for pain is the foot and toes, but if not treated promptly, it may develop into multiple areas.Joint discomfortIn severe cases, it can even lead to joint deformities. Although there is currently no cure, by understanding the formation of uric acid, knowing what foods to eat when there is too much uric acid in the body, and what nutrients can help alleviate symptoms, we can regain control over our health.

The formation of uric acid

Most men over 40 years old and their dietary habits are closely related to uric acid levels! Our daily diet contains a substance called purine, which is metabolized into uric acid. When too much uric acid accumulates in the body, "uric acid crystals" deposit in the joints, causing swelling and pain. Animal organs, shellfish, seafood, and alcoholic beverages are all high in purines. People who frequently eat these foods, have an uncontrolled diet, take long-term medications, or drink too little water, making it difficult for uric acid to be excreted, are more prone to developing uric acid reflux.

What diet should I eat if I have high uric acid?

A 12-year study by Harvard University in the United States found that people who eat about 1.92 servings of meat per day have a 41% higher risk of developing high uric acid levels than those who eat less than 0.81 servings of meat per day! Seafood consumption is also directly proportional to the amount of uric acid produced; therefore, reducing the consumption of red meat and seafood is one of the dietary rules for lowering uric acid formation. In addition, excessive amounts of beans, shiitake mushrooms, cauliflower, spinach, and fresh asparagus are also best consumed in moderation due to their high purine content. The following foods are low in purines; moderate consumption will not burden health and may even help excrete uric acid:

  • milk
  • eggs
  • Light green vegetables such as Chinese cabbage
  • Root vegetables such as potatoes
  • Tomatoes, eggplants
  • winter melon
  • Apples, strawberries

Nutrients to supplement for high uric acid

Besides paying attention to your daily diet, supplementing with specific nutrients can also help prevent uric acid formation. Celery seed is a particularly effective nutrient for combating uric acid! Celery seed has diuretic and metabolism-boosting effects, and it also purifies the blood, helping to eliminate accumulated uric acid and other toxins, and improve joint discomfort and swelling! Recommended health supplements containing celery seed:

  • Charenda – Celery Seed 3500+ Blueberry Extract Concentrate (with Kakadu Plum): Celery seed, rich in precious Omega-6, has diuretic and pain-relieving effects; blueberries, rich in anthocyanins, can eliminate eye fatigue, strengthen eye function, and prevent eye degeneration.
