This also explains why muscle tightness or cramps are more likely to occur when there is insufficient magnesium in the diet.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-page-node-id=\"FbkgP744CT7OyslICdSjdn\" data-dm-ref=\"81\">(2) Bone health: Magnesium and calcium are partners<\/h3>\r\n<p data-page-node-id=\"lGHXww45tXQL74tJmIGC3D\" data-dm-ref=\"82\">Since more than half of magnesium is stored in bones, it is naturally closely related to bone density. In 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a qualified health claim: &quot;A diet containing adequate magnesium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure,&quot; while noting that the existing evidence is inconsistent.<\/li>\r\n<li data-page-node-id=\"Pd4LVELcE7MdRnM966MFv8\" data-dm-ref=\"91\"><b data-page-node-id=\"EZWamca6RA0CKBHV02tyMD\" data-dm-ref=\"92\">Regarding heart disease and stroke:<\/b>Multiple prospective studies have found that higher dietary magnesium intake or higher serum magnesium levels are associated with a lower risk of sudden cardiac death, ischemic heart disease, and stroke\u2014in other words,<b data-page-node-id=\"SbN8YGLNyRrCZOUnC48FnT\" data-dm-ref=\"93\">For every additional 100 mg of dietary magnesium per day, the risk of total stroke is reduced by approximately 81 TP4T, and the risk of ischemic stroke is reduced by approximately 91 TP4T.<\/b>\u3002<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p data-page-node-id=\"GK2AXInTx1iJewOjrh1jNb\" data-dm-ref=\"94\">These are observational studies and their associations still need to be confirmed by large-scale clinical trials; however, as part of a daily diet, &quot;eating enough magnesium&quot; is a clear step in supporting cardiovascular health.<\/p>\r\n<h3 data-page-node-id=\"X9AJNJoFHgBAmdg4H1GbRW\" data-dm-ref=\"95\">(4) Blood glucose and metabolism<\/h3>\r\n<p data-page-node-id=\"8qOpAMtPnuzKUECUB9lQmS\" data-dm-ref=\"96\">Magnesium participates in multiple stages of glucose metabolism and also affects insulin signal transduction. According to NIH ODS:<b data-page-node-id=\"LgBSIJ28ERwc1kTT8Go10L\" data-dm-ref=\"97\">People with higher dietary magnesium levels have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.<\/b>\u2014A meta-analysis of prospective studies shows that for every 100 mg increase in daily total magnesium, the risk of diabetes decreases by approximately 151 TP4T; comparing the highest and lowest intake groups, the risk difference is approximately 231 TP4T. As for\u2026<b data-page-node-id=\"73vj9CBIFwNNEFdkav19yW\" data-dm-ref=\"98\">Patients diagnosed with diabetes<\/b>There is currently insufficient evidence to suggest that magnesium supplementation can improve blood sugar control.
